The Leader Within

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend “Leader Summit”- a leadership workshop that is open for all OU students to attend. I didn’t really know what was in store when I first registered for this event, but now I’m glad I did!

Leader Summit is a 7-hour workshop, led by OU’s amazing LEAD Team, that provides leadership training, keynote speakers, and of course, food! I was amazed at how many students actually came to this event on a Saturday morning. Some of the activities at this workshop include: Break-out sessions with speakers, “Habitudes”- talking about different leadership topics, community service project – making place mats for a retired veterans home, and lunch!

8 Things I Missed About OU Over Winter Break

8 Things I Missed About OU Over Winter Break

8. The South Oval

When you come for your tour, the South Oval probably seems like nothing more than a huge space that takes forever to walk across, but in reality it’s the center of activity at OU. This is because, especially as a freshman, all of your courses will most likely be concentrated in this area of campus. Last semester, 3 out of my 4 classes were somewhere on the Oval. Even if you’re not a freshman, the Oval serves as a rendezvous point for every student at OU, no matter what major or year they might be. CAC and other campus organizations advertise their events here, free stuff is often distributed here, and everyone has to pass through at some point. What I’ve missed most is the liveliness of the Oval and how I always see my friends pass by when I’m walking to class. I miss the way people cross Lindsey before the monotone crosswalk voice says, “Walk sign is on” because they’re running late to class. And I miss the free stuff, but I’ll get my fill soon thanks to CAC’s Winter Welcome Week!

5 Ways to Use Your Leftover Meal Points

Before I can hit on my “top five” list, I need to explain the meal plan system so that you will understand what I’m talking about. So if you already know the difference between meals, points and meal exchanges, skip ahead. :)

First you have to understand the difference between meals and points. You will get so many meals each week, and they will expire every week on Sunday at midnight so you have to use them within that week or you will lose them. A meal can be used at Couch Restaurants (a.k.a the Caf). When used at the Caf, a meal has an all-you-can-eat value of $11. When you use one meal to get into the Caf, you get all-you-can-eat access to ALL of the FOURTEEN dining options inside this one building. I am a super picky eater, and trust me when I say there is something for everyone here. Don’t believe me? Check out the virtual tour.

5 Tips to Avoid Stress During Finals Time

Computer labs, study rooms and the library will become your best friend during Dead Week and Finals Week.

As the semester winds down, I realize I have not written nearly enough for my Boomer Blog. At the beginning of the semester, I had plans to write once every other week, maybe even once a week. I promise to make it my New Year’s Resolution to write more for you all. I love this school and want to share everything I know and love about it with you.

I know you all are in high school, but you will soon be in college. And in college, finals are just around the corner. Seeing as we are currently in what us college students call “dead week,” I decided it would be a pretty good idea to give you all some tips and tricks for avoiding meltdowns of catastrophic proportions during everybody’s two least favorite weeks of college.

My Semester In a Nutshell…

It’s currently 3:33 in the morning and it is so sad that I think it is early. Here lately my life at OU has consisted of late night studying for finals… yes it’s crunch time! I have started to realize that, maybe it’s because I’m in my first semester, but I’m not really sure how to prepare at this point. I’ve been attending my classes, meeting my professors during office hours, and re-reading over my notes. Finals are difficult to describe. I feel prepared, yet I don’t! It’s an exciting feeling knowing the semester is almost over, yet frightening to think that my first college finals are here! I feel that the only thing getting me by at this point is knowing I get to go home in about a week, and start a fresh semester after that! I could not be more excited for next semester. I’ve learned so much this semester, both academically and about myself. This semester has been filled with wonderful things happening around campus… Have you heard about them?!  Read the rest

Finals Are Here

Hello future Sooners!

I can’t believe that this semester has gone by so fast! I’m a freshman so it is crazy to think that I am already heading into my second semester of freshman year. So finals are coming in the next two weeks, and classes are starting to slow down and just review over all of the information from this past semester. What I have learned from this past week of being back from Thanksgiving break is that before you leave for the break, make sure you have your work done and can come back prepared, not behind.
